The Poet

Meet Maurice Parks

Maurice Parks grew up in Central Trinidad and attended Couva Junior Secondary and Carapichaima Senior Comprehensive. Alongside a lifelong love of football, pool and the game of chess, his creativity took flight in the form of poetry — verses he plans to keep sharing with the world.

A King’s Songs was brought about through meditation, hope and a desire for something better for future generations. Parks believes the words within his book have the power to heal a world filled with sorrow, and hopes readers who share similar notions will gravitate to each poem.

The Book

A collection written to heal.

A King’s Songs is a meditative collection of poems on humanity, morality and the quiet power of choice. Each piece is a small stone tossed into the pond — a ripple meant to outlive the moment.

Love & Selflessness

Verses that ask what it truly means to show love, not only to receive it.

Morality & Legacy

Reflections on integrity, truth and the history we are writing each day.

Hope for Tomorrow

Poems written for the next generation, with the weight of the last.

A Sample Poem

Pebble in a Pond

Despite the difference in size and state, a pebble entering a pond creates a reaction. The water is disturbed momentarily causing ripples from the radius in which the stone enters. Whereas the pebble is buried at the bottom of the pond. If a larger stone is thrown the greater the ripple effect would be while the stone would suffer the same fate. Continuing this process may eventually lead to a pond being transformed into a stone heap.

Charisma and its potency have the ability to invoke attributes which were considered dormant or non-existent. Now! Charisma is not subjective and should be examined to understand the nature of its origin. The power to sway an individual in the direction that you desire to be profitable is a weapon that needs to be managed. Looking around today, it seems to be clear that negativity is more influential in the charismatic race. While the solution is simply the opposite but yet difficult to follow. A lot of people want; without work, and fight those that work, even for their own benefit.

Blame is the name of the game, though there are merits and facts at times. We are writing history each day that we see, choice is the hurdle to overcome. For it be easier to do the wrong thing in the simplest form, rather than to endure a little discomfort to do what is right. "Judge Not! Less ye be judged" yet one would look around after finding money on the floor or not washing their hands after using the toilet, knowing! Some may beg to differ and use perception as an excuse or even ignorance perhaps!

Every action has a reaction, so then, how should we behave. Which leads to the big question selfish or selfless. And "What is love?" A lot of people want to be shown love but don't want to show it because it is too hard.

A century from now regardless of the outcome our input would be taken into account. Thus far the struggle that our fore parents endured so that we do not struggle as they did, is being created by us for the next generation. Substituting love, integrity, respect, manners, morality and truth for vanity and self-pleasure is a cancer to our species. It's shameful to be amongst the shameless, knowing the results, because: morality, legacy, genuity and humanity is at stake. Why? It's simple, let's simplify the equation so we can really be able to live in peace.

The way Maurice weaves hope into every stanza is extraordinary. After reading 'Pebble in a Pond,' I sat in silence for ten minutes just absorbing the truth of it. This collection is nourishment for the soul.

I've quoted Maurice's verses in three sermons already. He writes the way an honest neighbour speaks — gently, but never sparing the truth. A genuinely moving collection.

I gave this ebook to every member of my senior English class. The students who 'don't like poetry' came back asking for more. That alone says everything about Maurice Parks.
